Olympian Mancake of the Day...Ohhhhhhhh Canada

Canadian derf. Allison. writes: Here is some maple-syrup-flavoured Olympic mancake: Adam van Koeverden (born January 29, 1982) is a Canadian sprint kayaker. He was born in Oakville, Ontario to a Dutch father and a Hungarian mother.

He is the current reigning world champion in the K-1000 m, his favourite event. and has three Olympic medals, one of every colour.

He also makes me want to see if I could write '50 Shades of Red and White' :)

True Adam van Koeverden story told to me by a colleague, Andy. Andy and his wife and teenage kids are very involved in a local paddling club. A couple of years ago, Adam was attending a regatta (or whatever you call kayaking races), which caused a bit of a stir. When Andy was uploading his photos from the regatta onto the computer the next day, he found a series of photos of Adam van Koeverden on the camera. Adam changing his shirt, Adam lifting his kayak, not posed shots, but kind of stalker-y photos. He called his teenage daughter in and asked what was with the Adam pictures. Her response: "Dad, I had my own camera with me. Those photos? Are mom's." Busted.

I approve of Andy's wife's taste.

You know what is most appealing? He looks like a real person. An incrediably handsome real person, but a real person you could sit down and have a beer, or a glass of tea, or a cup of coffee with.
