5) What is one of the best pieces of advice you have ever received?
A friend married young, had a baby, then divorced several years later. Very shortly after, she met a new guy and they quickly got into a serious relationship. After some time together, she was happy with him but sort of wondering if she'd missed out on any adventures or opportunities because she was in committed relationships from such a young age. So she told her boyfriend that she wanted to date around a bit. She wasn't breaking up with him but she just wanted to see what else was out there. He told her fine, she could do what she wanted, but he wanted to make sure that if she chose to date other men, it would permanently change her relationship with him. It wasn't a threat, just a caution that if you mess with something it will never be the same again no matter how hard you try. My friend decided to stay with the boyfriend and not date other men. They have been happily married for about 20 years, I think.

My friend relayed her husband's advice to me when I was struggling with a relationship myself. Her advice is something that always goes through my mind when I contemplate making a serious change to any relationship. Bottom line, I think the advice says think about your choices and make sure you are willing to live with any consequences that may result.

1. Block Island, Rhode Island
2. Mushroom or peppers & onions, OR a white pie w/garlic, broccoli, black olives
3. A pink sleeping bear called "Baby Teardrops" . He was soft fuzzy pink fur w/ a white belly and his face was rubber w/ one teardrop on his cheek. Why? Who knows but he is in a box in the attic!
4. French learned in school but also spoken to Great Grandmother. Not fluent, but I comprehend much more than I dare speak!
5. The problems you are talking to be about do not originate with you. What we need to develop for you is coping strategies for the crazy that is your family. Or...when I had baby "Calm parents make calm babies, everytime that baby naps YOU rest too. It's not time to clean the house or get caught up, it is your opportunity to recharge." That was hard to do, but it did make a big difference!

2) What is your favorite pizza topping?

Pepperoni and/or meatball.

3) Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were a kid? If so, what was it?

Yes. But not just one - I had a little plush horse named Taffy, and a larger one named Champ. A plush collie dog named Opalescent. I still have them.

4) Do you speak any other languages?

Fluently, no. Enough to get by/read signs and menus/ask basic questions, yes.

5) What is one of the best pieces of advice you have ever received?

I once had the best boss in the world. I learned so much from him, but most of it wasn't in the traditional form of "advice".

I am an introvert, and I watched him work business functions like a pro. I told him that it had to be easier being an extrovert....and he basically said "no, I'm an introvert. I just learned how to work a room."

The light went on over my head. I realized that even if I wasn't naturally good at something, if it was important or useful for me to do it, I could learn to do it too. It didn't have to be natural to work. This has really stuck with me.

3) Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were a kid? If so, what was it?
Yes, a little stuffed doggy. I wore off all his fur by rubbing him on the side of my face when I was sleepy, until eventually he became a hairless stuffed doggy. Mom sewed him together and even used safety pins to keep him intact as long as she could. One day--so the legend goes--we were showing my Kentucky aunt around the Rockies when she jumped and squealed, and began screaming about the dead rodent on the side of the road. Mom went over to investigate; it was my stuffed doggy. I still have the horrific little thing tucked away in my childhood memorabilia.

Ummmm. I don't think I've on a vacation in 11yrs. That was to visit a friend in Miami for 3 days. Our whole family kind of had a vacation about four years ago in Eastern Oregon but my husband had to work the whole time (the reason we were there) and we were broke so I don't think it qualifies. 1) Where was the last place you went on vacation?
Close: Two weeks canoeing in Algonquin Park last summer. Far: A month in Rome 18 months ago. Once in a lifetime trip, I'm sure.

2) What is your favorite pizza topping?
Anchovies.

3) Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were a kid? If so, what was it?
My sister's bear, Bun. I used to steal it once she was asleep. Terrible, I know, but she always had the good stuff. Still does.

4) Do you speak any other languages.
A bit of French, a bit of Italian. Enough to carry on a present tense conversation in both. Forget future tense and conditional though

5) What is one of the best pieces of advice you have ever received?
This is not exactly advice. When my father died (I was 27 and had 4 kids under 7 at the time...) a friend of a friend sent a message. He said that when his father had died suddenly, "I was rat-shit for a year." I can't tell you how much I appreciated that. It gave me permission to feel crappy, to hate the Christmas tree, to be angry that the world was carrying on without my father - with whom I had only just made peace - to allow myself to grieve for longer than "the world" thinks you should. I pass this story on to everyone I know who's lost someone, many have told me it helps them too.
I WISH someone had told me to save 10% of your earnings, no matter how small. That's advice I really could have used right about now...

1) Where was the last place you went on vacation?
Grayland Beach State Park (south of Westport, WA) was our camping spot twice last summer. I love it there.

2) What is your favorite pizza topping?
Cheese is a requirement! My favorite pizza is a margherita.

3) Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were a kid? If so, what was it?
I had a home-sewn stuffed kitty that wore thin by the time I was old enough to notice and remember. My favorite after that was Dolly (later named Laura after Laura Ingalls Wilder), now boxed up in the garage. I'd take her out of the box but it would freak out my husband and kids.

4) Do you speak any other languages
I took 3 years of German in high school, followed by a year of Latin. Latin helped on the SAT but the German came back when we lived in Heidelberg for 3 years. I can converse like a 3-year-old.

5) What is one of the best pieces of advice you have ever received?
Scar (from The Lion King) said it best: "Life isn't fair." I repeat it at least once a week, to myself and/or my kids.

1. The kids and I travelled around Scotland in an old 1970s Kombi van for a week last August, from Glasgow into the Highlands and back down the East coast. Would go back to Scotland in a heartbeat, never want to drive or live in a Kombi again.
2. Mmmmmm, Margherita.
3. My little "Jakas" white bear, Snowy. Still hv him.
4. Was passable at conversation in French when I lived in Geneva but seem to hv lost it now. Three years of Italian at University and all I can remember is 'Posso puo palare lentamente'.
5. (when dealing w kids) Never ask a question to which you are not prepared to accept the answer.

1. Montana, Wyoming and Colorado
2. Onions and mushrooms together, well and cheese
3. I had a handmade stuffed monkey but can't recall it's name...
4. Not really, I can understand a little French, but it has been too long since I've gotten to use it.
5. My old boss always told me, people do things for their own reasons, don't take it personally it is about them. Not always easy to do, but good advice nonetheless.

1) Where was the last place you went on vacation?
South Dakota & Wyoming (Mt. Rushmore, Devil's Tower, the Badlands)

2) What is your favorite pizza topping?
Pepperoni and green pepper, with buckets o'cheese

3) Did you have a favorite stuffed animal when you were a kid? If so, what was it?
Yes, a little stuffed doggy. I wore off all his fur by rubbing him on the side of my face when I was sleepy, until eventually he became a hairless stuffed doggy. Mom sewed him together and even used safety pins to keep him intact as long as she could. One day--so the legend goes--we were showing my Kentucky aunt around the Rockies when she began screaming about the dead rodent on the side of the road. Mom went over to investigate; it was my stuffed doggy. I still have the horrific little thing tucked away in my childhood memorabilia.

4) Do you speak any other languages?
I like to pretend I can speak Spanish but it's only un poquito.

5) What is one of the best pieces of advice you have ever received?
Relax and stop worrying about what others think of you, because people aren't thinking about you as much as you imagine they are.

(hope this isn't a repeat, the original didn't seem to post this morning...)
