Homeschooling Tip of the Day

Mrs. G. and her son have been doing a unit study on the brain for the last four weeks. It has been really helpful to have this puzzle spread out on their dining room table— it's much easier to learn about the medulla oblongata when you can hold it in your hand.

Just for fun, Mrs. G. is giving her son a one pound chocolate brain for Christmas. Trust her, he will think it's hysterical. Homeschoolers!

Homeschooling Tip of the Day

If you happen to have a nicer than Barb Shakespeare lover in your house, you might consider this amusing way to brush up on grammar basics. It's for older kids.

Homeschooling Tip of the Day

Mrs. G. has been homeschooling for twelve years. Yes, she's tired. If she recommends something, it is because her kids have loved it. She doesn't get free stuff from anyone, because Mrs. G's love can't be bought. It has to be earned.
Greek Myths, King Arthur, Sherlock Holmes, Shakespeare, the Classics? Storyteller Jim Weiss records then all on his amazing CDs. Mrs. G's kids used to listen to these before they went to bed. Their favorites were Tales From Cultures Far and Near and American Tall Tales.

Homeschooling Tip of the Day

Mrs. G. has worked through this book countless times (she doesn't think there is a lame exercise in the book) with her real-life kids and her school-life kids. It is worn and dog eared with love and constant use. It's a favorite.

This book was a lifesaver in her early years of Homeschooling. It is filled with encouraging advice and fresh and wonderful activity ideas. The auther is kind of a laid back hippy type, and Mrs. G. seems to just be naturally drawn to laid back hippy types-even though she isn't one.

Mrs. G's son was a reluctant writer, so when he was nine, she took him out and let him pick out a cool journal. She wrote an entry about a story from her childhood, followed by a few questions for her son. She left the journal on his bed. He answered her questions, wrote a little story about his life, followed by a few questions for Mrs. G. He left the journal on her bed. They passed the journal back and forth for months. Mrs. G. still has it.

Both Mrs. G's kids loved these workbooks when they were small fry. It was a big deal when one was completed, and it was time to buy another. Mrs. G. saved many of them, because her kids' drawings were so sweet.
